trying is utterly useless

pretty,
an undefinable concept
meant to give girls false hope
(definable only if you have
"the look")

pretty,
something that
girls are willing to starve for,
to puke their guts out,
stomach acid burning
the back of their throats.

it's simply a waste.
a waste of time, money,
life.
and yet
we dedicate so much 
energy 
to something we can never obtain

beauty is in the eye of the beholder
or at least that's what every grade school teacher
has force fed me,
trying to prevent me from becoming
a statistic. 

it's a truth.
a truth we are too fucking unwilling,
too fucking dumb,
to try and grasp. 
or maybe we just enjoy
(because isn't the world full of sadists?)
being told what's acceptable
to wear
to say
to slap on your face
